Every member of aviation, from pilots to crew chiefs to mechanics, is vital to accomplishing a mission. Every helicopter has its own team of mechanics to ensure it’s always running efficiently. The 1st Battalion (General Support), 168th Aviation Regiment (GSAB), can trace its history back to 1959 when it was originally organized as the 41st Aviation Company in the Washington Army National Guard located at Camp Murray, Tacoma, Washington. Over the next fifty years the battalion would be reorganized several different times to meet the changing needs of the U.S. Army. The U.S. Army Command Structure, which includes all Army Commands (ACOM), Army Service Component Commands (ASCC) and Direct Reporting Units (DRU). As USAR aviation looks forward to planned force structure changes, its general support aviation battalions will match Active Component GSAB structure but also have an additional MEDEVAC Company.
